Ifeoma Uzoma was born on August 1, 1981 into the family of Uzoma in Umudioka, Orlu L.G.A, Imo state Nigeria. The name 'Ifeoma' is a native Ibo name meaning 'nice thing'. That nice thing may come not only to me but also to others has always been my prayer. This was manifested in some of the songs that I use to sing. To throw some insight to what became a reality; I started singing while I was fifteen. Coming from a big family that have tasted and survived a lot of ups and downs, I remained thankful to Almighty father for keeping us together as one big family.
It was not by chance that I chose gospel music as a tool rather it was an opportunity for me to answer God's call and to embrace Him. I remembered singing in a lonely room one day with the hope that only God could hear my songs not knowing that my mother was back from her journey and was listening behind the window as I was singing. From that day my mother started showing keen interest in whatever I do which could have made other members of our family become jealous if not for the wise intervention of my beloved dead father (now late). Papa may your gentle soul rest in peace +.
I once remembered my Mum saying "Ify you really have a God praising voice". The keen interest of my mother manifested in her supports and encouragements to join the local choir in our church, The Christ The King Catholic Church (CKC), Naibawa Kano State, Nigeria. This I accepted without hesitation and it later turned out to be a wise decision, hence my advise to fellow youths:- 'Youths, you should always listen to your parents because they are the only one that can find out the potentials you were made of at your tender age'. I could have not been what I am today if not for my parents especially my mother who noticed that I had a voice and the quality that can praise God.
Sunday the 24th of December 2006 was a remarkable day which later became a turning point in my journey as a gospel singer. On this day I was given the opportunity to present a responsorial psalm in our Church by the Choirmaster. As it has always been, my God gifted voice was the weapon that earned me a lot of recognitions prompting the then parish priest Rev. Father Chris Peter to appoint me for songs during bazaar. Being convinced about my God gifted voice the parish priest appointed me to sing in the ordination of Rev. Father John Ezenwa. As was the will of God invitations to sing at religious occasions started flowing in here and there.
A remarkable revelation came my way one day as I was rehearsing a song to be presented to our Christian youth league. In the revelation, the Almighty father instructed me to go into the world and use the gift He has given me to impact on the needy souls and those looking for ways to praise HIM. As one who put God first in all that she does I decided that before ever I release any commercial song for God's people, a track must be dedicated to praising HIM for all the wonderful things that HE did in my personal life and that of our family. This decision gave birth to the title of my first album "OJANMA JISOS" which is due to be released any moment from now. At the moment I am pursuing a degree in Mass Communication at the Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka Anambra State. Although it is not easy combinning both careers, the invaluable knowledge that I got from my degree programme contributed immensely to the production of this Album. The two careers are really like both sides of a coin.
This brief about how I started will not be complete if I forget to appreciate the tremendous moral and financial supports from relative, friends and well-wishers. Therefore, my sincere gratitude goes to the following;
